Written by Angela Carter, this five hundred odd word story retold the traditional tale of Snow White. Here, Snow White is a dream born from the lewd longings of a Count, and as he lusts for her, his wife the Countess grows ever more jealous.
There are many ways to interpret the grim events of The Snow Child. I especially enjoyed playing with the relative space the Count and Countess took up on the page in relation to their power over one another in the narrative.
The story is illustrated across four spreads, made from the digital collage and colouring of old copyright-free Victorian woodcuts and engravings.
